The fungus shown above is called yartsa gunbu. Yartsa comes into the world by infecting ghost moth larva in the hills of Tibet. The fungus devours the body of the larva and a brown stalk begins to grow out of the larva's head. Yartsa been perscribed to treat back pain, fatigue, reduce cholestorol, improve eyesight, even treat diseases such as tuberculosis and asthma. Considering the fungus' extreme medicinal value, a pound of quality yartsa can go for about $50,000 USD.
